Looking way to Transfer Files/Data between two Windows Computer/PC then stop looking now. You have found the right place. I’ll be sharing a two 2 min guide on file transfer via LAN cable. This could be done between two different Operating systems. As you know data transfer is one of the prominent requirement of any computer user. We keep on transferring data in form of text file, audio, Videos, Games etc. For job to be done one require storage device like HDD, USB or CD.
Though these devices are widely used but for bulk transfer when you would like to transfer huge amount of data or you don’t have access to storage devices, use of LAN cable for data transfer is a useful method to apply.
In general data transfer is a two-step process.
- Copy data from computer to Storage device.
- From Storage device, copy back to other System .
Isn’t it a hectic and time-consuming process? Let’s make it simple and straight. This article will focus on procedure of data transfer using Lan/Ethernet Cable.
File Trasnfer In Windows Via LAN Cable
Now the basic requirements for this method are known to you.
- Two computers/PC/Laptops (With LAN port).
- LAN/Ethernet Cable.
Follow the below Procedure and start transferring files.
Step 1 : Insert jack of LAN cable into LAN port of both systems. This for creating connection between two PC’s.
Step 2 : Now open Control Panel >> Network And Sharing Center
- You will see new LAN Connection.
Step 3 : Click on Connection.And Open Properties > Sharing > IPv4.
Step 4 : Now in IPv4, you need to enter following values.
- IP Address : 192:168:1:2
- Subnet mask : 255:255:255:0
- Default gateway : 192:168:1:3
Similarly on Second System
- IP Address : 192:168:1:3
- Subnet mask : 255:255:255:0
- Default gateway : 192:168:1:2
After entering following credential both computer under same network will maintain a connection. And we will be visible under your network.
It’s not at all necessary to use these IP values exactly. You can create your own values but do remember to figure out the relation between IP address and default gateway. Ip address of first PC will be default gateway for second PC and vise versa
How to Share Folder Using LAN Connection
Creating connection is not a typical task nor does sharing files. This Could be done easily by selecting proper permission level. Below is the step by step method.
Step 1 : Right click on Folder which you want to share/send to second computer.
Step 2 : You will see Share With option. Navigate along Share with > Specific people. You will find something like below screen shot. Here select everyone and from the drop down list choose Read/Write permission level.
- Click on share and it’s done.
Folder has been shared with other Windows PC. You can easily copy and paste the shared folder on your PC now. For that open the second computer under your network tab. Data will be inside shared folder.
I think after following above mentioned procedure you all have successfully shared file using using LAN cable. But those having problem with this method, restart your PC and try again with the same given method.
